The History of Street Fighter and Hip-Hop! / Waypoint Feature

My RYU BLACK “PERFECT 天” musical got honorable mentioned in this Street Fighter Hip-Hop Article on Vice.
I need to stop messing around and drop Alpha already..cuz I’m referred to as “Another guy made this album.” in the article which hyper links to PERFECT 天. This article was a lot of fun because it attempted to analyze why Street Fighter and Hip-Hop were so interconnected.

My take on it is this..very simple. In the early 90s Hip-Hop continued to evolve. Not matter where you lived, especially on the East Coast Hip-Hop had a major influence on style and vibe. There was also pride in being able to be “nice” with the hands…as brothers would always be play fighting, wrestling and slap boxing. Couple that with the idea that you’d frequent a corner store, pizza shop.. something to get your munchies on before, during or after school. Corner stores held the hood down. Youth culture…corner stores.. and boom what’s in the corner stores.. arcade consoles….and what game was there… STREET FIGHTER. No matter where you went.. SF was there… even the video stores would have the arcade console just to capture how fanatical the game was for youth culture. Just a small thought…related to some history in NY. What has been later known to be called “Hadouken” is actually known in the hood as “AHHH YOUUUUGIT” hahahahahaha!
