Description

After a three-year hiatus, MeccaGodZilla returns with sonic alchemy on the instrumental hip hop album “ERROARS 2.2: Metal Sakura.” The seventeen-track LP blends boom-bap tradition, experimental beat culture, and global influences shaped by time spent living in Tokyo, New York City, and Long Island.

Rooted in the tradition of instrumental hip hop and beat tape culture, the project explores sounds influenced by rap, R&B, experimental music, dancehall, and house. The album reflects a cross-cultural sonic palette shaped by underground hip hop scenes in Japan and New York.

After hearing the project, international recording artist Masia One described the music with a striking metaphor: “I see a wilting cherry blossom, and when its dipped in metal instead of incinerating it becomes stronger and more beautiful… the metal doesn’t cause them (the blossoms) to fall hard, they are still organic and beautifully graceful, but slowly forming metallic shells…”

Driven by the goal to keep this album 100% Strong Island vibes, MeccaGodZilla foraged locally recruiting Freeport’s very own Last Words and Buhrnum Wood, two MC’s known for extraordinary freestyle ability, to engage in a lyrical joust on the closing feature song “Laundromat Combat.”

Proudly representing Long Island’s Hip Hop legacy, the album draws inspiration from artists such as Rakim, De La Soul, Public Enemy, EPMD, Prince Paul, Roc Marciano, and Keith Murray.
